Student Organization Advisor & Campus Staff Minister

Our
Story

We moved to Wyoming in 2002 as incoming faculty at the University of Wyoming. Not long after arriving, we realized there was a need for a campus ministry for graduate students. We value graduate Christian ministry as we both came to an intentional faith in Jesus while earning our PhDs (Chip, at UMinn and Carol at UW-Madison). Early gatherings were just a few people meeting at the UW Union. In 2006, the Fellowship of Christian Graduate Students (FCGS) became a recognized student organization on the UW campus.

Carol became InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Grad/Faculty Ministry staff in 2022, affiliating the grad fellowship with InterVarsity, having stepped away from the UW School of Pharmacy faculty. This now provides greater access to training, resources and retreat, conference and meeting opportunities. Chip continues on the UW faculty as Professor of Physics and Astronomy, serving as advisor and volunteer for FCGS.

Today we host students in our home nearly every Sunday during the school year for dinner and study! These times build community and provide opportunity to grow in our faith as we examine and discuss Scripture as well as nonfiction works by prominent Christian authors and speakers. Copies of Scripture and other books are provided without charge to those in attendance.

In the past three years, we've expanded to include small groups on campus and virtually (via Zoom), based on need and interest. These have included Bible studies, prayer, the Training and Action Group that hosts an Encouragement Table and seeks to share the love and truth of Jesus on campus, and a small group on leadership and self-awareness that incorporates Biblical principles. We hope you choose to join us! We look forward to meeting you.
